The lowest power to work birds

Spring is coming and I'm looking at portable/holiday style operations where the Yaesu Ft-817 is a winner and it works fine both Vhf and Uhf/Ssb. This rig does not have dual rx but it does a god job in 'split mode' so, it would seem the perfect transceiver to have fun in a 'satellite day' as well as a weekend or other kinds of outdoor operations.



The question: the Yaesu Ft-817 has 'only' 5 watt (a respectable power to work birds), but at this power level the battery life is very short so, my...
